The
Street Crimes unit consists of six officer members supervised
by one Sergeant and works with the Patrol Division to
develop tactical and strategic plans for solving crimes
and apprehending criminals in a proactive, rather than
reactive manner. Some of the officers in Street Crimes
are also members of the Special Weapons and Tactics
(SWAT) team, which is responsible for assisting as needed
during the processing of a search or arrest warrant,
barricaded subjects, hostage situations and where needed
in crisis conditions. Members of the SWAT team are highly
trained in the use of various weaponry and tactics and
are used in high-risk scenarios. Intense training for
this team is conducted on a bi-weekly basis.
