Plantation
is a community that is safe and beautifully landscaped.
Code Compliance plays an important role in preserving
these "good life" standards that we all
enjoy as residents of Plantation. To ensure that
our community remains beautiful and attractive, the
City has created the "good neighbor" voluntary
code compliance initiative. This initiative
is aimed at preventing code violations by educating
property owners about the more common violations such
as overgrown lawns. This approach is preferred
to enforcement and litigation actions which require
more time, prolong positive results and often result
in additional fines.
Resolving
Code Complaints
The Code Compliance Division is under the direction
of the Police Department.
Code complaints may be made to the Police Department
at any time during normal business hours (Monday-Friday,
8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.) by dialing (954) 797-2267
or after hours by dialing (954) 797-2100. Code complaints
may also be made to individual city departments. All
life threatening emergencies should immediately be
reported by dialing 9-1-1.
All highly imminent hazardous code violations
should be immediately reported by dialing (954) 797-2100.
The Police, Fire/Rescue or other emergency
specialists will respond to these emergencies.
Non-hazardous complaints will result in the
initial call being handled by personnel from the Police
Department.
The appropriate specialized inspector will
complete action follow-up.

Notice - Door Hanger or Verbal Warning
A
door hanger may be left at the location of a violation,
with written instructions describing the type of violation,
a suggested method of correction and the number of
days to meet compliance.
A re-inspection of the property will determine
if the violation has been corrected.
If compliance is not met, then law enforcement
action will begin.
Notice of Violation and Other Remedies
The
official Notice of Violation (NOV) begins the process
for the non-compliant violator to appear before the
Code Enforcement Board or Special Master if the violation
is not corrected. Property owners who fail to comply will be given notice of
the board hearings in person, by certified mail or
by posting(s) on the property.
Continuing violations may result in an arrest
or arrest warrant which may be followed by severe
fines, liens and foreclosure.
Code Enforcement Tips
Garage
Sales - Garage
sale signs may not be attached to trees, light and
other utility poles, traffic signs or anywhere on
a public right-of-way.
Signs may be placed on private property.
Business
Signs - Require
a permit from the Building Department, after Zoning
Division clearance.
Pennants,
Banners, Streamers, etc. - Pennants, banners,
streamers, balloons, blinking and flashing lights,
streamer lights and any other fluttering, spinning,
rotating or similar attention attracting and advertising
devices are not permitted in the City.

Notices Prohibited - No person will post or affix
any notice, poster or other device, calculated to
attract the attention of the public to any lamppost,
public utility pole or tree or upon any public structure
or building.
Address
Numbers - Every business and home in the City
of Plantation must have discernible building numbers
(compliance reduces emergency response time).
No scriptive lettering is permitted.
Alarms
- All
residential and business alarms in the City must have
a permit which may be acquired at the Plantation Police
Department, Records Section.
There is a one time non-refundable administrative
permit fee of $25.00. Businesses have a $10.00 annual renewal fee.

to warnings and fines depending on the number of false
alarms accumulated.
Animals

and control of the owner or other responsible person.
This person must restrain these animals by
leash, collar chain or other physical barrier (i.e.,
fence, cage or full/partial enclosure)
Association/Condominium/Homeowner -
It
is important to remember that a resident of Plantation
may have to adhere to deed restrictions and condominium
/homeowners association rules that are more restrictive
than City Codes.
Should a community be under a homeowners association,
it is the responsibility of the homeowner to review
any deed restrictions listed in his/her closing documents
in order to fully understand his/her responsibility
and any regulated subjects in his/her neighborhood.
The City does not enforce these rules.
Barking
Dogs - Please report any disturbance by a barking
dog to the Plantation Police Department (954) 797-2100.
If you own a dog that continues to disturb
the peace of the neighborhood, the Police Department
may have to issue you a notice to appear.
