2011 Officer of the Year Officer Greg Murphins

Officer Greg MurphinsOfficer Murphins graduated from Cooper City High School in 1990. He then attended Florida State University where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree in 1994. Officer Murphins was hired by the Plantation Police Department on March 4, 1996, and graduated from the 179th Police Academy at the Broward Community College Criminal Justice Institute in August 1996.

During his time at the Plantation Police Department, Officer Murphins has volunteered for additional duties in the Honor Guard and as a MAGTAF member. He has been assigned to several specialized areas including the Detective Bureau, SWAT, and in his current assignment in the Street Crimes Unit.

Throughout his career Officer Murphins has built the reputation as a determined investigator and a savvy street cop. He has an uncanny ability to be the first officer to arrive at in progress calls. If you didn’t know his tenaciousness, you might wonder if he has access to a portal that magically transports him to these scenes. In reality it’s his hard work and dedication that has gotten him to this point.

This type of work ethic has filled his personnel file with numerous letters of appreciation from other departments as well as the public. Officer Murphins’ internal accomplishments shows he is a four time recipient of the Officer of the Month Award, a Commendation Award, a Distinguished Performance Award, a Crime Stoppers Award, and most recently a Life Saving Award from the Plantation Fire Department.

The consistency in Officer Murphins’ high level performance continues to remain apparent to officers and supervisors alike. For these reasons Officer Murphins was selected as the Officer of the Year for 2011.
