The K-9 unit was added to the Department in 1999. The unit consists of six dogs and their handlers, with each handler/dog having different responsibilities. These dogs are used to track suspects, find missing persons and evidence and detect narcotics and potential life threatening devices that may be hidden from the site of the Officers. The keen detection ability of these well-trained dogs helps protect emergency personnel and the citizens of Plantation.
