JUVENILE UNIT

School Resource Officers: There are four officers assigned to this unit. They cover Plantation High School, South Plantation High School, Plantation Middle School and Seminole Middle School. The officers assigned to a school offer counseling and guidance and address criminal activity that occurs at the school.

G.R.A.D.E: Starting in 2002, the School Resource Officers are now teaching the G.R.A.D.E. program at eleven elementary schools. G.R.A.D.E. stands for Gang Resistance and Drug Education. G.R.A.D.E. is a ten-week course geared at the elementary level that discusses issues like self-respect, conflict resolution, leaders and followers, drug awareness and gang awareness. Juvenile Detectives: There are two detectives assigned to the Juvenile Unit who have a variety of responsibilities. Along with investigating criminal activity, the detectives are responsible for the identification of gangs and other juveniles involved in violent street activities. These detectives work closely together with other police agencies in the county.

Victim Advocate: There is one civilian employee assigned to this position, Becky Slack. She works closely with the victims of domestic violence and other family problems. This program also assists victims and survivors of crimes.
