On 8/14/08 at approximately 3:00 am, Officer S. Burst observed a small red vehicle parked in front of the restaurant at 7015 W. Broward Blvd. with its lights off. The vehicle then exited the plaza without turning its lights on. Officer Burst quickly checked the businesses and discovered the glass doors shattered on several businesses in the complex. Officer Burst then proceeded westbound on Broward Blvd. in an attempt to stop the vehicle. He located the vehicle in the Lakes of Newport with the driver’s door open and one occupant still inside. A perimeter was established and K-9 responded. The cash register drawer from one of the businesses was found on the floorboard in front of the occupant and he was taken into custody. The other suspect was quickly located and apprehended by K-9. A check of the shopping plaza revealed that three businesses had been burglarized. The subject apprehended by K-9 was taken to West Regional Hospital and to Broward General Hospital for treatment. Both suspects were charged with Burglary and the suspect who fled was also charged with Resisting an Officer Without Violence and Possession of Burglary Tools.
