The Identification Unit is supervised by a Detective Sergeant and consists of a Technical Coordinator-Latent Fingerprint Examiner and six Identification Technicians. Unit personnel are specially trained and certified to support the investigative efforts of the detective bureau. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day. Operational tasks include: documentation, collection/analysis of physical evidence, and provide technical assistance to investigators and prosecutors as needed in a wide range of criminal activity including complex investigations such as homicides.
With more than 75 years of experience the Unit uses a team approach to its investigative efforts. At times, the Unit will coordinate the investigative efforts between the uniform patrol officer and the detective bureau. Bringing a successful conclusion to court cases through scientific investigation and expert testimony is the goal of this Unit.
