EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Emergency Preparedness for Your Home
Emergency Preparedness for Your Business

One of the greatest responsibilities a City has to its residents is communication – to collect and disseminate emergency and recovery information regarding ice, water, food, governmental and utility services, safety issues and individual recovery assistance programs in an efficient, timely and effective manner.  But citizens have responsibilities, too.  The battle against a hurricane is won before hurricane season begins.  The keys are PLANNING and PREPARATION!

City staff and elected officials understand that every storm or event is different, and there is no way to tell our residents today how many days after an event they will have electric, garbage pickup, postal service, open City facilities, phone service, etc. However, we can tell them:
(1) How to prepare in advance for an event
(2) Where to go for the information post-event so that you will be as informed as possible

The City of Plantation wants to work with residents and homeowner associations to help “get the word out” about pre-event preparation and post-event action.  Before and after a storm hits, residents need to know what to do – and not to do – to ensure their safety.  We have compiled information residents and businesses can use to keep them safe, secure and well-informed before and after a storm hits.

Within this site, you will find emergency preparedness information checklists, and a list of resources for additional information, which include the Department of Homeland Security’s website, Ready.gov and the State of Florida’s website, mysafefl.org.

We are all hoping for a quiet, uneventful hurricane season, but the best thing you can do for your family is to have a plan and be prepared.
