Firefighting in today's society is both challenging and exciting with many rewards for a job well done. The mission of the Plantation Fire Department is to reduce deaths, injuries and property loss from fire, hazardous situations and emergencies. The Volunteer Fire Fighter is the key to successful fire prevention and suppression. The key to continued progress is the ability to select top-notch applicants from an eligibility list to become our firefighting force. This information will explain the qualifications and benefits of being a Plantation Volunteer Fire Fighter.
Qualifications for Fire Fighters
1. Be 18 years of age
2. Be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Development Certificate (G-E-D)
3. Must have or be eligible for a Florida Driver's license and possess a safe driving record
4. Weight must be in proportion to height, although there is no minimum or maximum
5. Vision must be 20/20 or corrected
6. Must be in good health as determined by a physician
7. Be of good character and reputation
8. Must not have been convicted of any felony or serious misdemeanor
9. Must past a test for illegal drugs
10. Live within 2.5 miles of Plantation corporate limits
