Debris Removal Options

• After a severe weather event, the Public Works Department, along with private contractors, make at least one pass through every public street in Plantation collecting landscape material placed on the swale. To expedite the process and avoid causing additional damage, residents must pile the debris away from mailboxes, electric meters, fences and drainage grates.
  
  
• Neither the City, nor its contractors, collect landscape material on private roadways and streets, whether gated or not. Homeowners within private communities may bring their landscape debris to the nearest public swale for pickup. 
  
  The determination as to whether debris will be picked up on private roadways and streets is made by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) on an event-by-event basis.  Last year’s debris removal approval was limited to that Federal Declared Disaster (FEMA 1609-DR-FL-Wilma) and does not apply to any future Federal Declared Disaster, unless approved through the same application process.
  
  
• Leaves, twigs or cuttings placed in clear plastic bags can also be recovered during this process. Please do not place these items in black bags. Only clear plastic bags will be picked up.
  
  
• Residents will be allowed to bring horticultural debris to the City of Plantation Public Works compound 750 NW 91st Avenue, free of charge, during the specified hurricane recovery period (proof of residency required). Check this web page for specific dates and times.
  
  
• Public Works Hours of Operation: Public Works Department hours of operation will be adjusted to accommodate public need during the specified hurricane recovery period. Please check this web page for specific dates and times.
  
  
• Residents with large amounts of construction debris such as fencing materials, should bring them directly to the County waste sites. The closest site is located at US 27 and Sheridan Street.
