The Plantation Police Department is divided into two patrol districts: District 1 which encompasses the area west of University Drive from the south to the north city limits and District 2 which encompasses the area east of University Drive from the south to the north city limits and The concept of patrol districts with a District Commander (Captain) in charge of each district is based on the accountability concept.
This accountability is assigned to the District Commander 24 hours a day, encompassing all three Patrol shifts, which increases the awareness of given activities within a district, and also provides an improved understanding of the changing dynamics of a district throughout the 24 hour shift cycle.
The District Commander is responsible for planning, problem solving, implementation of programs to solve problems and the review of results for that district. Residents and business people alike have the opportunity to identify the Commander in charge of their area and can contact the appropriate Captain to address any concerns or problems. Problem solving is a priority in each district.
Each District is further subdivided into patrol zones with specific police officers assigned to each zone. The concept of assigning officers to zones on as permanent a basis as possible creates a sense of ownership for the assigned officer. The districts and zones are depicted on the map shown below.
