The
Plantation Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit is located
in the Outreach Center in the Broward Mall, 8000 W. Broward
Boulevard. This unit has implemented numerous community based
programs throughout Plantation which all strive to address
quality of life issues in Plantation's neighborhoods.
N.E.T. (Neighborhood Enhancement Team)
This
problem-oriented program is directed specifically at targeting
problems that pose the greatest concern to the community. Through
the collaborative efforts of the Crime Prevention Unit and
all its resources within the Community, County and State, concerns
and problems are identified, analyzed and addressed.
Neighborhood Watch Program
Neighborhood
Watch is a community action program that relies on mutual cooperation
aimed at reducing crime in the neighborhood watch community. This
program establishes a formal network for concerned citizens
to communicate with other neighbors and the police and in turn become
more aware of the activity that occurs in their neighborhoods.
Shoplifting Program
The
Shoplifting Program is an aggressive anti-retail theft initiative
directed at awareness and deterrence tactics for the businesses
of Plantation. The program educates store employees, making
them aware of the methods and tactics that shoplifters use to
commit retail theft. Once the employees of a business establishment
complete this training, the store is issued a sign from the Crime
Prevention Unit, to be displayed in the front window, indicated
that the store has entered into a partnership with the Police
Department to prosecute shoplifting offenders.
Operation
Identification Program
The
Operation Identification Program is a community action program
aimed at showing the citizens of Plantation the importance of
marking their valuable property to include recording the make,
model, serial number and any self applied numbers. This
program also instructs the program attendees to photograph their
property for later identification is stolen or damaged.
Trespass
Program
This
program is a Law Enforcement/Community cooperation initiative
that enables the Police to enhance probable cause requirements
upon detecting suspicious activity in a community. This
is facilitated through a written agreement (affidavit) between
the Community Association, Homeowners Group or Management Group
and Law Enforcement Officials which authorizes Police Officers
to act as the community's representatives when enforcing Florida
State Statues relating to trespassing.
C.A.T.
Program (Combat Auto Theft)
This
is a partnership between the police and the community that allows
citizens to sign a consent form gives Police authorization to
stop, detain and question any drivers and occupants of their
vehicles between the hours of 1:00-5:00 a.m. These vehicles
are identified by a yellow 3x5" sticker with a black cat
logo and "Plantation" displayed on it.
Child
Identification Program
A
collaboration between the Plantation Police Department and the
Missing Children Awareness Foundation, Inc., this program provides
parents with a personal identification card for their child or
children. This card contains a record of all physical,
dental and other identifiable information about the child's features,
abilities and habits. The card also contains a hair sample
for DNA testing and also includes a recent photo, thumb print
and important child safety tips.
Seniors
and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.)
Seniors
and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) is a senior involvement
program that works together with the Broward Country T.R.I.A.D.
program and is comprised of senior citizens in Plantation that
provide a number of law enforcement related services.
This
group acts as an advisory group and provides a forum for exchange
of information between seniors and law enforcement, surveys and
interviews seniors to identify their perceptions of crime in
their areas, increases awareness of public safety concerns through
education and involvement, coordinates the efforts of relevant
organizations and supports training for law enforcement personnel
to meet the specific needs of seniors in the community.
